Two years ago, 57-year-old resident of Kenya - Mohamed Jiwa was endlessly bothered with incessant weakness and constant weight loss. Because his job required him to do a lot of outdoor activities, he thought these problems would eventually diminish, so he decided to concentrate on improving his diet. Unfortunately, when after a few months there were no visible signs of relief, Mr. Jiwa decided to make an appointment with a Hepatologist to understand the real cause of his symptoms. Once his reports came back, indications through X-ray and CT scan showed that he was suffering from Liver Cirrhosis.
“On the outside, I notice that I had pale and itchy skin, however, I wasn’t aware that this was a symptom of a serious problem. The doctor, on the other hand, was able to diagnose my condition just by observing my outward appearance. It was dreadful News; I was not prepared to undergo such a treatment at that time”, Jiwa recalls. During the next few months, he was kept under close examination with a heavy dose of medication, all the while preparations were being made for a liver transplant. His wife Sidika recalls the events as they unfolded, “It was scary to hear that he was suffering from liver Cirrhosis. I had to think what that would mean for us and how we would get through the next few months”.
“During the few months, I remember swallowing pills that were prescribed for recovery. I was determined to come out of this situation better-off, I have a lot of things on my bucket list, and in order to accomplish those things, I had to recover quickly. Transplant was always a sticky situation that we wanted to avoid at all costs. During the course of a few months my wife and I met 4-5 doctors one after another to find a solution that didn’t involve surgery. But all in vain; then I decided to search for this internationally. While browsing, I came across Vaidam. Firstly, I hesitated to trust these guys but then I send my query regarding the treatment.”
Upon receiving his request and subsequent reports, the team at Vaidam began to provide assistance through relevant hospitals that would cater to the needs of Jiwa. After considerable research, he finally decided to make an appointment with Dr. Arvinder Singh Soin from Medanta The Medicity on 27 January 2018.
“On the way to Medanta Hospital with my wife, I was praying for a positive response from the doctor. To my pleasant surprise, things turned out just as we had hoped for. Dr. Soin told me that my liver condition would be better with adequate medication. Words cannot express the joy I felt after hearing this news. For the next 3 weeks, I had to visit the hospital for regular check-ups. The staff and doctors were very pleasant to speak to and answered all my questions whenever I had a doubt.”
