I am Ali Yusuf Hersi from Somalia. I am 56 years old.
What brought you to India?
I had been suffering from ear-related symptoms like ringing sensation and gradually progressive hearing loss in my right year for last 10 years. I consulted some physicians and also tried some kinds of treatments. All my efforts went in vain. Thereafter, I also started having facial pain on the right side 3 years ago. This pain got even more aggravated 8 months ago. I also started having reduced sensitivity on the right side of my face and recurrent redness in the right eye. At that point in time, a friend of mine suggested me to get my treatment from India and also told me that I can do that through Vaidam Health. Soon, I posted my query on their website and received a call back from their case manager. From there onwards, my process to come to India started.
How did you choose the doctor and the hospital for your treatment?
Before coming to India, the case manager from Vaidam provided me with a list of some of the top neurosurgery hospitals in India, that have a great record in performing complex surgeries with a high success rate. They also gave me opinions and quotations from all the hospitals and helped me with the selection amongst them. I also searched about Dr. Vikas Gupta on the internet and found great reviews about him. Shortly, I was able to make up my mind to get my surgery done by Dr. Vikas Gupta at Manipal Hospital, New Delhi.
How did you get the visa and arranged your stay?
The team helped me get a Visa Invitation Letter and got my visa within a week. Also, a member of Vaidam showed me several options for my stay and I chose as per my preferences.
How did your treatment go?
Shortly, after my arrival in India on 1st December 2018, my appointment was fixed with Dr. Vikas Gupta. He listened to me very patiently and noted all my medical history in detail. During my physical examination, the doctor told me I have reduced sensitivity on the right Vth cranial nerve and impaired corneal reflex. After this, he ordered certain investigations to confirm the diagnosis. After the reports came back, he told me that I needed Right retromastoid suboccpital craniotomy and excision of right vestibular schwannoma. After taking my consent, my date was fixed for the surgery. Both the surgeries went successfully. I stayed in the hospital for a week or so for the recovery and then got discharged. The doctor gave me the post-operative instructions in detail and greeted me well. I finally went back home on 13th December 2018.
Vaidam Health wishes him great health in the future.
