The onset of the problem
About some time ago, Akinola started facing pain and discomfort in his right hip, especially while lying down. After enduring the pain for some time, when it did not go away on its own he consulted a doctor in Nigeria. After a long consultation and investigative tests, he was told that there that he had avascular necrosis in the hip which caused hindrance in the hip movement.
Avascular necrosis is a condition in which there is the death of bone tissue when the blood supply is obstructed. The bone gets damaged from inside and the condition is also known as osteonecrosis.
In Search of the right doctor
When he was recommended to get a hip replacement surgery, Akinola started his hunt for the best orthopaedic doctor in India. This was when he got to know about Vaidam Health and posted a query on the website. Shortly, he was contacted by one of the case managers who shared the reports with some of the top doctors in India and got him the treatment opinion with best an estimate cost. After going through the profiles of some top hospitals and doctors, Akinola finally decided to visit Artemis Hospital and consult Dr IPS Oberoi.
Appointment with the doctor
After everything was finalised, his medical visa was applied for India. The medical was received at his email address within 72 hours. Finally, he arrived in India on 29th September and scheduled his appointment with Dr IPS Oberoi, who is one of the most eminent orthopaedic surgeons in India. He heard him patiently and meticulously, and then evaluated him clinically. After ordering further investigations, he confirmed that a unilateral hip replacement is needed for the right hip.
Within a couple of days, some pre-operative investigations were done to confirm that the patient is fit for the surgery. After the results came out clear, he was taken for the surgery, which went on for a couple of hours. Akinola stayed in the hospital for 2 to 3 days and then got discharged.
A post-operative session was done with the patient to discuss the do’s and don'ts and lifestyle changes that he must follow.
