Having been in pain over a period of time, when even two spine surgeries could not give Hanan Kamil Al Aibi any respite, she decided to travel to India to set things right. Accompanied by her brother Tahsin, therefore, she traveled from Iraq to India hoping finally she will be convalescing for good. Here Mr. Tahsin shares their medical travel experience in India:
What spinal problem did Hanin have?
My sister suffered cervical spine problem. There was an initial pain in the neck which over time spread to her arms and shoulders. We had opted for surgeries twice before but none of them seemed to successful as the problem recurred. It was like an endless ordeal that never seemed to end. She suffered from excruciating pain and was deeply worried as we had no idea what was going on.
What did the doctor in India diagnose about her condition?
In India, we went to Artemis Hospital in Gurgaon where Dr. Hitesh Garg and his team performed all the diagnostic procedures as well as the surgery. According to Dr. Garg, there was a disc prolapse in C3 and C4 vertebra. The inner core of the discs leaked and pressed against the nerve root that had caused all the pain in the arms and shoulders. Because of such a condition, the movement of her neck was also affected.
How is Hanan doing now after the treatment?
She is perfectly fine now. Dr. Garg has performed an ACDF surgery (anterior cervical discectomy and fusion) to cure the spinal prolapse. Just like a miracle the pain she has been suffering from for so long was gone only after a day of the surgery. Dr. Garg and his team are excellent and very professional. After carefully diagnosing my sister’s spine condition, they told us what problem there was and how it got affected by the wrong surgical techniques performed earlier. But I must say that the surgery has been done really well and my sister is very happy. With a medical infrastructure so strong and advanced, Artemis Hospital does serve as one of the best hospitals for spine treatment in India. I and Hanan heartily thank Dr. Garg and his team for all their endeavors.
How did you get in touch with Dr. Garg?
It is not Dr. Garg that we got in touch with initially but with Vaidam Health. I saw their website online from where I got a call back after I left an enquiry. From then onwards, I was thoroughly assisted by them. The team had set up an appointment with Dr. Garg at Artemis Hospital.
In what other ways did Vaidam help you out?
I guess I was in contact with them for over a week or two. The team provided me with options for top 10 spine surgeons in India which was really helpful. Sitting at home I had all the information I needed regarding the cost, the doctor and the hospital. It works greatly to a patient’s advantage. The team has been even arranged an accommodation for us and was always there when we needed them so we faced no trouble during our stay in India. It has been a wonderful experience. Because of their correct recommendations, my sister’s spine is fine now and we are extremely happy and thankful to the team.
