A resident of Cameroon, Tantse Tagne was having dinner when he started to feel out of breath. This was for the first time in his life, he was facing such a problem. Thinking that this was a normal occurrence, he didn’t speak a word to his family and tried to control his breathing on his own. After his family members observed this unusual breathing pattern and realized that this was not normal. He was rushed to the nearest hospital where he was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation. The doctor performed Cardioversion with drugs, a procedure to reset the heart to its regular rhythm. The quick action of his family and the doctor saved his life. The problem was for the time being under control with medication and there was no other indication of any further complications.
A few years after the incident, Tagne, who was sixty-year-old; was working in his garden when he again had very similar symptoms. He knew that something was seriously wrong and the need to be rushed to the hospital was imminent. His son quickly drove him to hospital. Like the previous time, Tagne was experiencing breathlessness and sweating. “I was afraid, I didn’t know what would happen,” he said. He was rushed to the Cath Lab where he was given electrical Cardioversion and his condition was stable.
“I wanted to play with my grandkids, but the constant breathlessness was getting worse day-by-day. To find the root of the problem, I started searching for the best cardiologist in India who could help me to get back my normal life. This is when I came across Vaidam. I narrated my situation to Dr. Tamanna Kalra, my case manager. After few phone calls and emails, my appointment was booked for 6 January 2018 in PSRI Hospital along with accommodations near the hospital.”
Mr. Tagne landed at New Delhi airport on 5th January and was accompanied by Saurabh from the operations team at Vaidam and subsequently taken to PreferInn in Gurgaon.
“My medical reports had been previously shared with Dr. T. S. Kler on the basis of which his recommendation was to go for Radiofrequency Ablation procedure. I stayed in the hospital for 3 days. A few days after getting discharged from the hospital, I was feeling better than I had felt in years but wasn’t confident about illness. The 20 days while in India flew by like seconds - I liked the people there, enjoyed their food and culture. Before returning to Cameroon, I visited my doctor for the last health check-up to ensure that everything was fine. The doctor told me that I will once again be able to fully enjoy all the activities I liked doing.”
After 3 weeks in India, Tagne began his path to recovery upon arriving in his hometown in Cameroon. “I was happy to be alive and fully satisfied with the treatment done at one of the top 10 best cardiac hospitals in India. Now, you have an ambassador of Vaidam in Cameroon to spread the good news.”
Tagne thanks the team at Vaidam and Dr. Kler in helping him fully understand the recovery process. Now he spends most of his time playing with his grandchildren, a simple but fun-filled activity that he missed during his treatment.
