Agara Johncallistus from Nigeria, who is just 11 weeks old was diagnosed with a hole in her heart soon after her birth. She was very weak and did not feel hungry. After having a cardiac failure once before, her parents now wanted to have a permanent solution to their fear and anxiety. They decided to visit India to get the surgery done.
Finding a heart surgery hospital
While searching for the best cardiology hospitals in India, Agara’s parents came to know about Vaidam Health and its role in getting the treatment done. They posted a query on their website and shortly received a call back from one of the case managers of the team. The case manager Aditi Sabharwal took her reports and shared them with some of the top cardiac surgeons in India. Soon, she shared their opinions along with the estimated cost and hospitals profiles. After going through the profiles, they decided to visit Fortis Escort Heart Institute, New Delhi.
Arrival in India
With the help of Vaidam team, the Visa Invitation Letter was arranged and medical visa was applied. Within a short time, the visa was received and family arrived in India on July 7th 2019. They were received by one of the operations team executives and taken to the hotel, which was already arranged as per their preferences. The next day, the appointment was scheduled with Dr Ashok Seth, one of the most eminent cardiac surgeons in India. The doctor went through the previous reports and evaluated the child. He also ordered a few investigations to make a final diagnosis. After the reports came back, he confirmed that Agara would need surgery. Soon, the surgery was scheduled and performed successfully.
Recovery Period
After the surgery, Agara was kept in the Incentive Care Unit or ICU for a couple of days and then shifted outside. After staying in the hospital for a week or so, the girl child was discharged. The cardiology team had a detailed session with the parents explaining them about the post-surgical instructions and the lifestyle changes needed after they head back to Nigeria. A few follow up visits were made and finally, the family went back to their country.
Parent’s words
“Agara has been recovering well. We are thankful to Vaidam for assisting us in a new country. We can always trust you. Thanks to Dr. Seth and the medical staff for being so co-operative and caring.”
