Artemis Hospital performed North India’s first and new type of non-invasive weight-loss procedure to treat obesity. It is the most common procedure in the USA and patient is discharged within 48 hours. Till now, Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy was the most common procedure for obesity but it has its own drawbacks.
Team of doctors led by Dr. Atul Sharma applied Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) procedure on a 34-years old patient, who had hypertension and obstructive sleep apnea. This procedure minimizes the size of stomach with the help of endoscopic suture device. An endoscope is inserted down throat into the stomach along with a flexible tube with a camera and an endoscopic suturing device. The tiny camera allows surgeons to see and operate inside the stomach without making incisions.
With the help of endoscope, the doctor put approximately 12 sutures in the stomach. This will change the structure of the stomach, like a tube and will further restricts the amount of calories body absorbs.
“There are no operative complications involved and the process is affordable. It takes 90 minutes and majority of patients can go home same day”, said Dr. Kapil Jamwal, Head of Gastroenterology Unit at Artemis Hospital, Gurgaon.
