If miracles exist then nothing could be more endearing than the beautiful news of the successful separation of the twin boys who were conjoined to each other by the head.
About a week ago we heard about the complex surgery of the 13-month-old conjoined twins, Jadon and Anias McDonald at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore Medical Center in New York.
After 27 hours of battle and toil in the operation theatre, the team of doctors, headed by DR. James Goodrich, was successful in separating as well as reconstructing the two infants’ heads. The estrangement of the two heads itself took 16 hours whereas 11 hours more was required to reconstruct and shape their heads.
Amongst the two, Jaden was the first one to come out of the operation theatre with his perfectly gauzed head unconscious and unaware of the biggest battle he just survived while his brother, Anias, still had to go on for five more hours.
The twins were then sent to the pediatric intensive care unit where teary eyed Christian and Nicole McDonald reunited with their two sons.
This is the seventh and longest separation surgery performed by Dr. Goodrich and is the 59th craniopagus separation surgery in the world since 1952.
Though the surgery has been successful and both the twins are alive, there are risks. While Jaden continues to maintain to recover steadily, Anias shows instability. Prior to the surgery he suffered seizures, heart issues and breathing issues. Though the seizures still continue, it is under check through medication.
