As a part of its routine practice, Vaidam continues to bridge the gap by serving as a common platform for expert doctors as well as the patients. A health checkup camp was recently organized by Vaidam Health in Zambia, which had some of the most renowned doctors from India.

Her experience, in a nutshell, narrated by Akshita herself...
Being Vaidam’s face and conducting a camp in Zambia was a golden opportunity for me, not only professionally, but personally. This being my first ever solo trip and that too outside my native country, India, I knew my traveling for a humble cause and it will make a significant difference in everyone's life. I was nervous but with constant team support and their motivation, my worries majorly vanished.
As a part of Vaidam, my ultimate aim is to provide people in need with the best possible treatment plans and doctors that they could receive depending on their condition. If someone needs to travel for medical reasons, then I counsel them on various treatment plans available for their requirements, the visa application process, accommodation details and everything they would need to know.
Walking down the memory lane, the cotton candy clouds are still vivid in my mind. The picturesque views, as I stepped out of the plane were enough for me to get started.
Day 1 started with a bang in Ndola. We reached at 12:30 PM and the camp was supposed to start at 2:30 PM, thus we literally did not even have time to breathe (or take a bath). I reached the venue, Health View Medical Center before to make sure the paperwork is on point. To my surprise, arrangements were done perfectly considering even the minute details.
As soon as the patients started pouring in, I got busy explaining to them the entire process of their medical trip, the stay, and other related information while the doctors were engrossed in evaluating them and explaining the treatment plan through detailed presentations and diagrams. I could see happy faces leaving the venue and it truly made me smile from the inside. We wrapped up around 6:30 PM and ended the day with nice Indian delicacies since the doctors insisted to have Indian food for dinner.
Day 2 continued with the same zeal and energy. We encountered many cases of breast cancer and prostate cancer. There were numerous people who needed a kidney transplant and we also came across a few HIV cases. Thankfully, there was a diminished number for oral cancer, maybe because smoking is not a usual practice in Zambia. All in all my stay in Ndola was hectic, however, fulfilling. I knew that my small gesture would impact many lives.
Day 3 led us to Lusaka, where Vaidam conducted an IVF camp. I went to the venue, Multicare Hospital with Dr. Nitika and started prepping for the patients. The scheduled time for the camp was 9 AM to 6 PM, but because of the humongous number that the patients came in, the camp got stretched till 8:30 PM.
Day 4, we were scheduled to travel back to India. Since coffee is a major attraction in Zambia, I couldn’t go back home without a few packets of my own. I was awestruck with Lusaka’s culture and Zambian cuisine, so much so, that we almost missed our flight, but we were just lucky enough to catch it.
Thank you note - Joseph, the Vaidam partner in Zambia was extremely helpful, and facilitated everything beforehand for us and made my trip much easier at every step.
To summarize, apart from being a huge success, this trip taught me many things at a personal level. I had to coordinate with hospitals, doctors, and of course, Joseph at the same time to make sure everything is achieved on time.
Personal interaction with the patients gave me a deep sense of satisfaction and I could see huge faith instilled by these people in Vaidam. After this trip, I feel I was able to strike an emotional connection with the people, and it only motivates me to work harder towards my goal.
The Vaidam team is thankful to the people of Zambia and we hope to organize many more such camps in the future.
