- Awarded Padma Bhushan in 2006, Indiaโs Highest Civilian Award
- First to implant and introduce implantable Cardioverter and Defibrillator (ICD) Therapy in India and South Asian region in 1995
- He is a recipient of various ICMR and other National Societies Award for contribution in the field of Cardiology.
- In 1997, he performed the first implantation of Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) therapy in South Asia & has been featured in the LIMCA Book of World Records.
- He introduced Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy in India and got listed in the LIMCA Book of World Records for the same.
- He has been honored with various recognitions including Dr B. C. Roy Award, the highest Indian award in the medical category.
- In 2006, he was awarded Padma Bhushan Award.
- After completing MBBS from Punjab University in 1973, he pursued MD in Medicine from PGIMER in 1976 followed by DM in Cardiology from PGIMER in 1989.
