Teeth Whitening and Cost in India
Why it is done
The most common reasons for teeth to get yellow or stained are:
Drinking dark-coloured liquids such as coffee, cola, tea and red wine
Berries and other strongly coloured teeth
Not taking good care of your teeth
Aging makes teeth less bright as the enamel gets thinner and the dentin becomes darker.
Tooth whitening can be done by two ways
In –office –based teeth bleaching
At –home care
In –office teeth bleaching
The in-office teeth whitening procedure is done by your dentist and it can get teeth brighter faster. The bleaching solution is usually much stronger than at-home kits. Heat and light, or a combination of the two is used to speed and intensify the whitening process.
Laser teeth whitening is one of the most common cosmetic procedures and it shows a marked improvement in brightness of the teeth.
Procedure for Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening done by laser are an effective way to reduce stains. The laser-activated teeth whitening can make the teeth up to 10 shades brighter in about an hour.
Step 1: Shade matching: Using a shade indicator, the dentist will determine the colour and shade of your existing teeth. A picture will be taken of your teeth so that you can see the difference after the procedure is complete.
Step 2: Protection: The lips are lined with a protective SPF lotion that contains moisturizer.
Step 3: Cheek retraction: A cheek retractor is inserted into the mouth to keep it open during the procedure. After the mouth is open, cotton rolls are placed under the lips to keep the area dry, and either a rubber dam or a protective coating is placed over the gums to protect the mouth and gums from the bleaching gel, which can cause irritation in the oral cavity. Patient will also be made to wear a pair of protective eye wear to protect the eyes from laser.
Step 4: Application of bleaching gel: The dentist will apply a bleaching gel in the front teeth.
Step 5: Bleaching light or Laser: This light is placed on the teeth and it will shine directly on the teeth to activate the bleaching process. The light from the laser shines on all the teeth at once and does not move.
Step 6: In the end: After the whitening session is completed, the solution will be suctioned or rinsed off. The protective materials will be removed, and the teeth and gums will be rinsed and suctioned again.
