Q: What is a cyst made up of?
A: A cyst is composed of some fluid that is accumulated in the follicle. There may be blood, hair, fats, and other substances inside it depending on the type of cyst formed in the region.
Q: Is it always painful to have a cyst?
A: Not always, as some are small and harmless. The bigger ones can cause pain and bleeding.
Q: Are all cysts harmful?
A: Not all cysts are harmful as they tend to go away during ovulation. But if this cyst remains in the pelvic region, and grows larger, twists or bursts, it may cause harm by bleeding and stopping the blood supply to the ovaries. It can also be cancerous.

A: If you are having a laparoscopy done, you may be able to go home the same day or, stay overnight. But with laparotomy, you may need to stay at least for 2 days.
Q: How soon can I be active again?
A: With laparoscopy, you can bounce back to normal activities a week after surgery, but laparotomy takes 6 – 8 weeks to recover.
