Clear liquid diet consists of water, broth or plain gelatin. They are very easy to digest and they don’t leave any residue in your intestinal tract.

You should reach the endoscopy centre one hour before the procedure.
You should wear comfortable clothes and don’t wear jewellery. You have to take out glasses any artificial items such as dentures.
You will need to stop eating and drinking six and eight hours before the procedure.
Throat spray consists of a medicine known as lidocaine for numbing your throat which may cause soarness for next 12 to 24 hours along with some tummy pain.
You can go home alone, but don’t drive after the procedure. Take rest after reaching home and then you can do your normal activities.
You will be given laxatives the night before the procedure for clearing your system. Tell you doctor that you have not taken your bowel preparation he may give you enema or some medications for clearing your stomach.
An endoscopy is not usually painful, but it can be uncomfortable. Most people only have mild discomfort, similar to indigestion or a sore throat. The procedure is usually done while you're awake. You may be given a local anaesthetic to numb a specific area of your body.
In the process of endoscopy a long flexible tube is being inserted down your throat into the esophagus region. A small tiny camera is being attached at the end of endoscope for examining your esophagus, stomach and small intestine
Mostly sprays are used for numbing the area during upper endoscopy. If you undergo gastrointestinal endoscopy then some form of sedation is being needed before the procedure. You will be in deep sleep and not feel any type of pain during the procedure.
Endoscopy procedure will take somewhat from 15 to 45 minutes to complete depending on the procedure being done.
Sedatives numb the area which becomes easier for passing the tube through the mouth. You will not feel any discomfort during the procedure.
If you resist then doctor can allow someone to be with you. You are mostly sedated during the procedure you will not feel any discomfort during the procedure,
You can raise your hand and tell your doctor that you are feeling some discomfort during the procedure.
Endoscopy will not hurt, it is a painless procedure but it can make you uncomfortable. The doctor will either sedate you or put a numbing solution in your throat so that you don’t feel any pain.
No, you are not allowed for self drive after the procedure.
If you have an upper GI endoscopy you will be required to stay in hospital or the centre for one to two hours after the procedure so that sedatives can wear off. When you go home rest for a day, you may feel some form of bloating or nausea after the procedure.
You may get to know about the procedure right after the procedure, if your tissue samples are collected you have to wait for one or two days after procedures.
You may feel hungry or thirsty but don’t drink or eat anything till you feel comfortable to swallow them. If your throat has been made numb then don’t drink or eat anything after one hour of the procedure.
