Calf implant or augmentation is a procedure performed to enhance the lower portion of the leg. It is performed by placing an implant, which is made out of silicone rubber over the muscles, on the medial aspect of the calf.
Procedure takes about 90 min & is performed general anaesthesia.
- The legs are measured at a pre-operative visit and appropriately sized implants are ordered and prepared.
- An incision is made in the calf muscle and a pocket is created between this fascia and the underlying muscle.
- Implants are placed through small incisions in the creases behind the knee. The pocket is enough to fit the implant properly.
- In the end, the leg is examined and if the result seems good then the incision is closed.
For the first two days patient might experience pain. Compression stockings and shoe with a 1.5 to 2 inch heel to relax the calf should be worn for about three weeks.
Complete recovery can take 5-6weeks.
