Eligibility for Medical Visa from Canada to India

Medical visa is only granted to those whose only purpose to travel to another is medical treatment.

Patient should seek treatment at a recognized/reputed/specialized hospital/healthcare center in India.

The patient is allowed with maximum two medical attendants to accompany him/her. They can be his/her family members or close associates.
-
Serious ailments like neurosurgery, joint replacements ophthalmic disorders, renal disorders, cardiac problems, congenital disorders, organ transplantations, radiotherapy, plastic surgery, gene therapy and others are of primary considerations in granting a medical visa. The list of treatments is non-exhaustive.
Important Documents Required for Indian Medical Visa Application from Canada

Print of the correctly filled online application form.

One photo of 51mm x 51mm to be pasted on the first pasge of the application form.

Signature in the application form should match with the signature in the applicant’s passport. (Both adults and minors).

Original Canadian passport with a validity of 190 days and 2 blank pages.

In case of non- Canadian/foreign passports:

P.R. card or Work Permit valid for at least 6 months as proof of work status in Canada.

Driver’s license, bank statement or utility bill as proof of address in Canada. The bank statement and the utility bill have to be less than 6 months old.

All the documents required from non-Canadians remain the same in three jurisdiction of Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver except in Vancouver a proof of address is not required.

An official letter from a registered doctor or hospital in Canada stating the applicant’s medical history and recommending his/her specialized treatment in India, the nature of assistance required by the applicant for medical treatment and the name of the medical attendant.

An official letter from the concerned reputed/recognized/specialized hospital in India stating the date, place and duration of medical treatment.

Proof of enough financial funds to support oneself during his/her stay in India.

In case of minors (below 18) the following documents are required:

Minor Consent Form – duly completed and signed by both parents.

Both parents' copy of passports and proof of address

Minor travelling without parents:

Notarized Affidavit indicating consent to travel. Both parents are to sign.

If either parent is out of the country while applying, that parent is to provide the following in addition:

Duly completed and signed Minor Consent Form.

Notarized Affidavit indicating consent to spouse to travel with minor.

Notarized photocopy of passport from Notary Public. Scanned copy of online visa application duly signed at Page 2.

Click on Regular Visa Application in the Indian Visa Online website.

Fill up the necessary particulars about yourself: your country’s name, nationality, high commission, date of birth, e-mail id, visa type and expected date of arrival in India. Enter the access code and click Continue.

A total of three pages are included in the form. Each page is to be filled up by the applicant's correct details. After completing each page, press Save and Continue at the bottom.

Enter details of your family address and your profession or occupation.

Fill up the details regarding your medical visa application that includes: the hospital in your country and the concerned hospital in India, duration/time of treatment, no. of visa entries required, purpose of visit, expected date of journey, expected time of arrival and departure, other important information, details about your SAARC country visit and references both in your country and in India.

If you travel to India for your treatment only through Vaidam’s assistance but do not have a reference in India, then you can provide Vaidam’s office address and contact number of patient relations as mentioned here.

Upload your picture or paste it after you take out a print of the filled application form. If you want to upload your recent picture in the online form, click on Upload Photo.

After you press Save and Continue on the third page, a preview displaying all your details will appear on your screen.

Go through them thoroughly. In case of any mistake click on Modify/Edit.

If all the data entered by you are correct, click Verified and Continue .

Read the set of instructions that appear on the new window thoroughly and press OK for final registration. Press Cancel to modify details.

After you press OK, a window will appear in which you will have to select the appointment date for the submission of application at the BLS International Offices. Click on Confirm the Appointment.

The new window that will appear after you have clicked on Confirm the Appointment, bears two options to Print or Save the online application. First, Save the online application. You may lose the application by printing it first.

Click on Print Registered Application to get the hardcopy of your application form.

If you haven’t uploaded your picture in the online application form, then paste it in the photo box on the first page. The photograph should be exactly the same size as the box (2inch X 2inch). Click here to know the other photo specifications.

Put your signature on the rectangular box just below the photo box. Do the same in the box at the bottom of the second page.

Finally, submit the application form along with the required documents at the Mission Counter on the appointed date, mentioned at the right margin of the application, during the working hours.
Indian Medical Visa Processing Fee
The medical visa fee from Canada to India is USD 123 for 6 months and USD 184 for a year. Additional charges include ICWF fee (USD 2) and BLS service charge (USD 7.4).
The medical visa fees should either be paid by debit card or cash at High Commission of India’s outsourcing agent BLS International offices according to the jurisdiction of the applicant.
Indian Medical Visa Processing Time
Application for Indian medical visa from Canada should be submitted at least 15 days before the applicant’s travel plans. Medical visa processing time varies according to the three jurisdictions of Canada:

Ottawa Jurisdiction: 7-10 days (Canadian passport holder); 10 -15 days (non)

Toronto Jurisdiction: 7 days (Canadian); 15 – 21 days (non)

Vancouver Jurisdiction: 5 -7 working days for all

Medical Visa Extension
Medical visa extension is necessary when the duration of the treatment or the recovery of the patient demands some extra time than stipulated. In that case an official letter from the responsible hospital authority is required in which the patient's ailment, treatment procedure and the number of extra days required to recuperate is mentioned. The applicant or the medical attendant should visit the FRRO office with the letter and the necessary documents to extend the patient's stay in the country.
FRRO
Foreign Regional Registration Office administers the registration of the applicant, his/her departure, visa extension and other miscellaneous activities regarding their passports, visa and their stay in India. Registration of foreigners at FRRO offices is mandatory on their arrival in the country. Here are the documents that are necessary for FRRO registration:
- Application form.
- Photocopy of the passport and the initial visa.
- Four photographs of the applicant.

E-Tourist Visa from Canada to India
E-tourist visa can be opted for medical travel when patients are in need of short term medical treatments or check-ups. The following documents are required for E-tourist visa.
- PDF of the first page of the passport (scanned) whose size should be between 10 KB and 300 KB.
- The applicant should upload his/her recent digital photograph. The photograph requirements are mentioned below:
- The size of the photo should be 10KB to 1MB.
- The photo should have equal height and width.
- The photo should contain full face of the applicant with front view and open eyes.
- The head should be at the centre of the frame. From top of the hair to the bottom of the chin of the applicant should be prominent.
- The photo should be taken against plain, light colored or white background.
- No shadows shoulbe be there on the face or on the background.
- The photo should be without any borders.
