Mohammad Alabe narrates his experience of an osteonecrosis treatment in India:
An immediate medical attention was required for Mohammad Alabe, as he suffered from chronic knee pain. The mere activity of walking proved to be a tedious and painful task for him. Hailing from Nigeria, Alabe looked for and had undergone treatments in other countries as well. But the results were somehow dissatisfactory, till he arrived in India.
“I had been having knee pain for sometime that worsened as each day passed. Swelling and locking of the knee was common. I tried medications, applied hot water bottles but nothing could reduce the pain. I could not walk properly and stumbled at every step because of the sharp tremendous pain. ”, said Alabe.
Looking for treatment options in other countries, Alabe visited the U.K hoping to get a solution to his medical problem. “I visited the U.K for my treatment last year. After an MRI scan it was diagnosed that I have osteonecrosis in my knees. Steroids were prescribed for reducing the pain yet it didn’t help. My right knee was in a much worse condition than the left one. The pain always used to come back. I was disheartened but never lost hope”, said he.
Alabe kept on his search for the correct treatment option when he found Vaidam Health. “I checked Vaidam’s website online and dropped a query. I never thought that I would get such a prompt response. Vaidam’s patient manager called back. After a thorough discussion about my problem, she mailed me a list of hospitals in India from which I could choose. Later on, I even got to know that my friend, Waziri, had also gone for their medical trip to India with Vaidam’s help last year”, Alabe added.
Assured as he was, Alabe arrived in India for his treatment thereafter. “I had my treatment at Fortis Memorial Research Institute in Gurgaon. Dr. Rajeev Verma suggested that I would have to undergo a total knee replacement surgery in my right knee. The surgery worked miracles. Just after a few days post surgery I could walk freely, there is no pain. I am very happy with the treatment”.
Apart from a unilateral knee replacement surgery, Alabe’s wife had also gone for a general check up at the hospital. Impressed with the infrastructure of the hospital Alabe said, “FMRI is truly an excellent medical facility. It is very organized, systematic, clean and technologically advanced. The doctors and the patient care facilities are commendable”.
After staying for four weeks in the country, Alabe expressed his delight before going back to Nigeria, “India is surely the best place for medical treatment. After all this time, finally, my knees are cured. Vaidam’s patient team guided me throughout. They assisted me to get medical visa, provided me with the cost of my whole medical trip, fixed my appointments, helped in currency conversion at the hospital and even helped us to get my eye check up done in India. I pay my heartiest gratitude to the whole team of Vaidam, Dr. Verma and FMRI, for giving me such a wonderful medical trip”.
