What did you suffer from?
I used to go through a lot of headaches and I had seizures. Sometimes I even felt numb. When I went to doctors, back in Ghana, they told me that I have frontal lobe meningioma. But I couldn’t find a proper treatment. I thought I would not survive. I had medicines for two years but it didn’t work.
When did you decide to come to India?
Well, I along with my family was looking for treatment options outside Ghana as one of my doctors suggested that there are many good doctors in India. We scrolled through the internet to look for doctors and hospitals. One day, my mother came across Vaidam Health’s page in Facebook. So, we dropped a query and got a prompt response. It was with their help that I came to India for my treatment.
Where did you have your treatment in India?
After looking at a couple of hospitals and doctors recommended by Vaidam, I finally had my treatment under Dr. Sandeep Vaishya at FMRI (Fortis Memorial Research Institute) in Gurgaon, Delhi.
How was your treatment at FMRI?
The treatment went really well. Dr. Vaishya had helped me a lot. He told me that removal of the tumour was the only way I can get back to normal life again. I must say he has an expert hand in surgery not only because the operation is successful but also because I feel a lot better now and I am recovering fast. There was no pain. I could see and feel and hear everything. I didn’t even understand that I went through a surgery! The patient care facility in the hospital is commendable. I didn’t even want to leave the hospital as they were so nice.
Did you feel scared when you were suggested of a brain tumour surgery?
When Dr. Vaishya told me that I would have undergo a surgery, I was really scared because I didn’t know how the whole thing was going to be like. I thought whether it will be safe, can I go back to my country safely or die here in India. I fell silent for a few minutes. But Vaidam Health’s patient manager encouraged me to go through the surgery and had supported me throughout. Though I accepted to do it, inside I thought all was lost.
For how many days have you planned to stay in India?
Almost 20 days. I had to stay in the hospital for 4 days and the rest of the days in my hotel for recovery.
Tell us your experience with Vaidam Health…
Vaidam Health is the one who has guided me to the right treatment. They are very helpful. Apart from providing me with options of doctors and hospital, they have also provided pick up services from the airport and gave me a suitable accommodation. My patient manager accompanied me to the hospital, made sure that the hospital charged according to the cost estimates and took care that the surgery was done properly. Before coming to India they had given me quote and they negotiated with the hospital for discounts to keep the final bill within that price. So, they are very reliable people on whom you can trust completely.
