- Four year old Haneesh suffered from the rare blood disorder of Fanconi’s Anemia.
- It is an autosomal recessive condition that leads to severe bone marrow failure in children by 8 - 9 years.
- It's incidence is about one case per four lakh people.
- Since birth Haneesh suffered from multiple symptoms including Aplastic Anemia.
- According to consultant paediatric intensivist, Dr. Anjul Dayal, the transplant was challenging. No matches were found in the registry or the cord.
- His father was identified to be a 50 per cent match although he has a different blood group.
- Thereafter, Haneesh underwent a successful haploidentical transplant at Continental Hospital, Hyderabad.
- Keeping him under close observation post the transplant, Haneesh's recovery has been stable.
