- Apollo Hospital in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, cured a 7-year-old boy who suffered from Wilson's Disease.
- It is a rare genetic disorder in which copper deposits are formed naturally in the brain, eyes and liver.
- The boy underwent a liver transplant, the donor being his mother.
- Due to the disorder he has very high bilirubin.
- Doctors at the hospital had to provide him with Fresh Frozen Plasma as he also showed abnormal clotting attributes.
- Although the blood group of the mother and son did match and a slice of liver was donated by her, the surgery was challenging.
- It was because the donated part of the liver had two very small plasma vessels of 1 mm and 1.5 mm each.
- According to Dr. Manish C. Verma, joining small blood vessels like this is risky as they are prone clotting post surgery.
- But all went well, the boy has now recovered and discherged from the hospital.
